COMPOSITE FILLINGS
Composite restorations, or tooth-colored fillings, have been around since the 1960’s. They have virtually replaced the older silver (amalgam) filling, and they look great since they match your natural tooth color. After tooth preparation, composite material is placed in layers. A curing light is used to harden the filling. Then the finished filling will be shaped and polished. We check your bite to make sure that your teeth fit together correctly.
VENEERS
Are you ready for an instant change? If yes, then veneers may be right for you. Veneers can close spaces and change the shape and color of your teeth. A veneer is a tooth-shaped shell that is cemented on to the surface of a prepared tooth in much the same way a false fingernail is applied. The process takes two appointments. At the first appointment, the tooth is prepared by removing a thin layer of enamel. Two to three weeks later you return for your final veneer placement. A veneer is a great alternative to bonding since they are stronger, last longer, and resist discoloration better.
PORCELAIN CROWNS
Porcelain crowns have been strengthens so that a metal base is no longer required. Porcelain crowns can be used to improve smiles by covering dark blue line around the gum caused by Porcelain fused to metal crowns. The shade of porcelain can be made to match your natural tooth color.
PORCELAIN BRIDGES
A fixed bridge is an alternative to a dental implant or removable partial denture. A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Tooth replacement is very important. It not only restores your bite, it will help keep your teeth in proper alignment. A bridge is cemented and can either be made of all porcelain or porcelain fused to metal depending on your needs. Since a bridge connects natural teeth with a fake tooth or teeth between, flossing underneath the bridge is essential.
IMPLANTS
An Implant is an alternative to a fixed bridge or removable partial denture. A dental implant is simply a metal or ceramic device that replaces the root of the natural tooth. After an implant is surgically placed into the underlying bone, a tooth-colored porcelain tooth is attached to it. However, dental implants are not the right restoration for every patient. Whether an implant is right for you depends on where the implant will be placed, the level and amount of bone available in the jaw and the shape of the tooth or teeth that will be placed on the implant. While treatment does require several months, a dental implant is close to having your own natural tooth.
REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES
A removable partial denture can replace a missing tooth or teeth. It is less expensive alternative to an implant or fixed bridge. It looks similar to a retainer and can be removed. It also restores your bite and prevents movement of adjacent and opposing teeth.
BAD BITES AND BRUXISM CAN GRIND AWAY YOUR SMILE
Most of us have seen “short” teeth-but have probably never thought about the cause. Some people have an incorrect bite that contributes to wear on the chewing surface of the teeth-even the front teeth. Other people have a habit of grinding their teeth (bruxism) that causes excessive wear. We want to correct the problem as soon as we notice signs of wear on the teeth. To prevent further wear, first you must be aware of the problem. Bruxism causes you to wear away your teeth by wearing through your enamel. If left unnoticed, you may wear through the enamel into the next tooth layer. Since there is no way to replace the missing enamel, your teeth may need to be crowned. Early intervention is the key. An appliance can be made to prevent future wear. Some people have joint pain when they grind and may need more treatment. A TMJ exam may be performed to assess your needs.
